About the Research Unit
Objectives and tasks:
- To collect the dialectal forms of all named places (settlements, fields, rivers, mountains, forests etc.) in the German speaking area of the Canton of Bern.
- To collect the attestations of toponyms from urbaria and other historical records.
- To publish the onomastic data in a comprehensive, alphabetically ordered dictionary with etymological commentaries.

Since 2019 we also provide digital scans of the original records collected during field work (Aufnahmezettel).
